What Lurks Behind Closed Doors and Drawers?

We all have busy lives where days, weeks, months and even years seem to fly by.  Stuff enters our home and either gets used or stashed away for later.  Sometimes great stuff looses it's usefulness, becomes something we don't want anymore, or we just plain forget we have it.  Now will be a great time look behind those closed doors and drawers and find items that you no longer need, use, or love and eliminate them from your home.

Choose a cabinet drawer or door and take a look inside.  What do you see?  Are the items related to the space you are standing in, or do they belong somewhere else?  Is there stuff that's just taking up space that you can get rid of?  Decluttering this small space will give you a sense of accomplishment and start you on the path to living more efficiently in your home.

Start by taking everything out of the cupboard or drawer you're working on and give the space a good wipe down.  Set aside items that don't belong in that space into a box that I call "Somewhere Else". Group remaining like items together and evaluate what can stay and what you can let go.  Broken our expired items go in the trash, while gently used items you no longer need go in a bag to donate later.  Shop in your house for items you can use to organize the space. You can even cut down cereal boxes and use small plastic containers for temporary storage solutions for your drawers and shop for more permanent solutions later after you see exactly what size containers you'll need.  When placing items back into the space don't cram it full, leave some extra space for similar items you might come across when you organize and purge the next drawer or cupboard. Once you are done, take a step back and be proud of yourself.  You might be surprised at how much better/lighter you feel each time you look at your newly organized space. Lastly, take the "Somewhere Else" box and distribute the contents to their proper homes around the house and put them away.

Once your smaller spaces are organized, try a bigger project, like your closet or a storage room, cause you got this!!!

Good luck!
